Cuenca:
Es el espacio territorial limitado por las partes más altas de las montañas, laderas y colinas, en el que se desarrolla un sistema de drenaje superficial que concentra sus aguas en un río principal que se integra al mar, lago u otro río más grande, (Faustino, 1995).
Microcuenca:
Es toda el área que desarrolla su drenaje directamente a la corriente principal de una subcuenca. En tanto que un conjunto de subcuencas forman una cuenca.
Manejo de cuencas hidrográficas:
Es una actividad ordenada y planificada que se desarrolla dentro de un
área física conocida como cuenca hidrográfica, para ordenar los recursos naturales, buscando su conservación, protección y producción óptima y sostenible, que se traduzca en un incremento del bienestar social y económico de la población que depende de la cuenca sometida a manejo.
